“Odisha Professional Social Workers Association Seminar- Corporate Social Responsibility: its scope and opportunities for Professional Social Workers”
The Initiative:
The Odisha Professional Social Workers Association (OPSWA), Bhubaneswar is a professional organization registered under SRA-1860 (Regd. No-5703-742 of 1994). The OPSWA is a membership based organization set up for the professional growth of Social work as a profession. Those who have completed post-graduation or graduate degree in social work become eligible to be a member of this association. Also, students pursuing Social Work as a degree become eligible to be an associate member of this association. OPSWA functions as a common platform for all professional social workers throughout Odisha, to discuss and share professional issues and challenges in their fields of work through workshops, seminars, conferences and forums. OPSWA strives to highlight the role and importance of professional social workers in different fields. To throw light upon and draw emphasis towards one such field where Social workers can create an impact, OPSWA is going to organize a seminar on “Corporate Social Responsibility: its scope and opportunities for Professional Social Workers”. The seminar will be held on 21st of December, 2019 at NALCO Auditorium, Bhubaneswar. Around 150 or more participants are set to gather for this event.
Objectives of OPSWA:
- To develop a professional Association that provides membership for social work students.
- to build up a linkage body between professional institutes in social work
- to develop a forum for social work professionals in order to facilitate exchange of ideas and upgrade knowledge skill sets in social work profession.
- to advocate and promote adequate placements of Social Work professionals in government and non-government sector
- organize seminars, workshops and debates for promotion of professional approach in the field of social work.
- to build up a documentation cell and encourage publication of news, journals and literature on social problems and social work practice
Seminar Motives:
The seminar will focus on social workers and their role in CSR:
- 1. Conducting assessment studies / surveys (baseline, needs assessments, opportunity assessments, participatory rural appraisal techniques, etc.) built on sound research principles so as to accurately gauge the ground situation before undertaking any development intervention.
- 2. Design interventions through established tools and frameworks such as Resource mapping, Market mapping, Skill mapping, Sustainable Livelihoods Framework etc.
- 3. Studies, surveys before project deployment
- 4. Prepare business plans and feasibility analysis consisting of financial analysis. Feasibility analysis of the project to be undertaken: welfare aspect, effects on various sections of society, Cost-benefit analysis, return on investment.
- 5. Assess the effectiveness of interventions through mid-term evaluations and end-term evaluations using identified social sector indicators
The above mentioned roles can be well handled by a trained Social worker who has been a successful practitioner of the profession; at the same time has proper understanding of social welfare schemes and social development. Therefore, the role of qualified professionals assumes great significance. The social sector professionals adopt a logically and technically sound approach towards solving the social sector problems.
Goals and Expected Outcomes:
- 1. Influence more community participation in CSR activities.
- 2. Involvement of professional social works in order to bring their experience and improve the effectiveness of CSR activities.
- 3. Finding quality project implementing agencies or NGOs
